About the event

Join CUSEAS as we host the first of our discussion seminars of the year, a forum where the Southeast Asian student body are encouraged to engage and think on topical matters of regional importance. You don't have to be an expert to join, but a keenness participation and active discussion are a must!

With Southeast Asia a focal point of rivalry between the US and China, a number of enduring questions lie at the forefront of those living in the region. How do you strike a balance between making the most of great power interest and moderating tensions? What role can ASEAN still play in this process? And would Southeast Asian states have to eventually choose a side in this great power conflict.

Moderating this discussion is Moez Hayat (Pembroke), a PhD candidate with the Cambridge Centre for Geopolitics focussing on Southeast Asian diplomacy.
